Practice before the Big Day

Tuesday 9th

Started: 7:30
Ended: 9:30

We meat in the library. I (Ashley) had booked a room for use to practice in. We went over our each individual slide. Then we talked about how what we were going to say during our presentation. Then we practiced with the PowerPoint, we stood up and physically went threw the motions. Laura had to leave early, so after she left we just kept on practicing each of our parts.

We also had some time in between our speeches where we just bonded and talked about our finals and other things going on in each others lives. It was a good stress reliever for all of use because of finals coming up so soon.

Editing the paper one last time

December 8th

Start: 7:30
Ended: 8:30

The group went over the paper again to double check on the paper. They did not get to all the parts with in the paper last meeting, so they went over the paper that needed to get looked over.  They also started to go over the power point a little bit to. Changed the some slides and put in which part was for which group member.

I (Ashley) could not be there again because of work. But I looked over the power point when I got home and it looks great.

Edit paper

December 3rd

Started: 7:30
Ended: 9:30

The group worked on our draft of the final proposal on the paper. They edited and revised some parts of the paper to make it sound like it was one voice and not five. They wanted to make it sound cohesive so when someone else was reading it they would not be confused. They also went threw the requirements and made sure that what Grace was asking for was in the paper.

I (Ashley) could not be there because of work but they filled me in on my part of the paper and told me what they changed which I was fine with.

In class meeting

November 25th

Started at 12:45
Ended at 1:40

Audrey did receive an email back from Leah. She and Leah meet and discussed her capstone project and paper together. Audrey stated that Leah found that the number one way that students respond to advertising is Posters. Then its is word of mouth, then social media. Leah found out during her capstone that the Excess TV was not an efficient way to advertise for clubs on campus.

After Audrey discussed Leah's capstone project we went into the outline of our presentation. Audrey made the power point on Google docs. We agreed that we will need to run threw our presentation together as a group at least three times before we present.

After laying our the power point presentation we then turned our attention to the paper.

The majority if class time was talking about how we are going to construct the group paper. The requirement for the paper is where we started and where our outline began. We all agreed that we were going to divide the paper up into sections and work on it over the break. We all agreed that our sections should be done by our next meeting, which is next Wednesday. In our next meeting we will all go over the paper together and think critically about what can be improved on if needed.

Next week we will have two meeting one in class and one on Wednesday.

NO Class, but a meeting

November 20th,

Started at 12:29
Ended at 1:30

Since Grace has canceled class, our group had decided to have our meeting during class time. However, Haliey and Audrey could not make the meeting. Which is not an issue because in our next meeting we are going to start our presentation on Tuesday next week in class.

Our meeting started out with the discussion Brianna and I had with Paul Shepherd.

After we discussed the meeting with Paul, we then discussed our presentation outline.

We started a rough outline of the presentation on paper then discussed that we will go over our outline and discuss more in depth with our other group members next week. We discussed that we will need to have more meeting and we must meet in person to do the outline together.

Frustration

November 12th

Start 7:30
End: 8:20

Our meeting started out with talking about the information each group member had collected for this weeks group meeting.

Haliey had talked with the Student Life Intern and received good information. Haliey was told that Student life was not the only organization on campus to help out student club/organization. She also found out that reserving space to but on a presentation for clubs and student is free.

Audrey emailed Leah a student last year who conducted research on marketing on the UWRF campus and sadly to say Leah has not responded to the email.

Brianna got in contact with the department who is in charge of WOW but they has little information to give to Brianna. Then told Brianna to get in contact with people from student life.

I (Ashley) had a meeting with Paul Shepherd on November 12. We had a meeting set for at 4 and I waited until 4:30, then I decided to leave. It was very frustrating because I didn't receive any email to why he didn't show up.

Laura was not at the meeting because a family situation came up which is understandable. She had found out that bulletin boards can rang form  $100-2,000. So with a wide range to choose from we felt that it was not too much to the college to spend for more advertising in the academic buildings.

We all felt frustrated because no one was communicated with us or giving us any information that we could rely or use for our presentation. We decided that we would try again and communicate with the individuals we had last week and see what we get through out the week. And discuss what we will do in out next meeting.

Our meeting of actually discussion for the project only lasted about 20-30 minutes the rest of the time we just vented to each other about the stress in our lives. The next day we all said it was great to just vent and laugh, it was a good bonding experience.

Hi Group 1! Here is the feedback on your presentation:

  • I've heard you have to reserve the UC table tents a year in advance. Where do we go to find info about the different advertising opportunities?
  • Org Sync is very confusing, I'm glad your addressing it.
  • Why do they still use ORg Sync if it's so unpopular? What about a different system?
  • Falcon Sync is not user friendly. There should be a large bulletin board by the student life area to promote clubs.
  • Good topic, it took me a year and a half to discover the photography club.
  • Are there more ways to advertise or can we just upgrade what we have? I don't think many people look at the advertisements on the TV or bulletin board, etc.
  • Lack of support? People don't want to see something boring or not interesting to them,
  • You stated the university isn't supporting the organizations. What are you expecting the UNiversity to do?
  • Good research on the multiple departments controlling advertisement on campus.
  • Why do we have such an advertising gap? Everybody is affected, even those not attending yet, they may not know what we have to offer.
  • How to get the one-stop-shop?
  • I agree!
  • Look at org favoritism for marketing.
  • Who is in charge of the Twitter/Facebook accounts for UWRF/Freddy?
  • Good topic, orbs need more support!
  • I would love to hear the solution to this problem because I'm in need of advertising.

Outline for Group Paper

On Wednesday October 22, we decided that at our meeting we will work on our group paper.

One of our members could not make the meeting because she was sick with cold that was going around school.

One of our group member came up with the idea that one would actually write the paper, HOWEVER we all went threw the paper requirements and contributed to the outline of the paper. She took notes to which she ultimately  was the paper. We all went it no detail of how we felt our group has been progressing threw out this semester. We gave out our honest opinion on specific issues that had to be address for this paper. Over all the meeting was very relaxing and a good opportunity to really look at our time together as a group.

The paper is going to be uploaded on to Google Drive as for other members can fill in anything that may have not been write in the paper.

The meeting lasted an hour.

Presentation time

Working together for Presenting

On October 19th we all meet in the Campus Library.

Talked about our attire for Tuesday. We decided that we are going to be wearing black pants (dress pants and leggings with riding boots) and we all are going to be wearing cardigans. However, we all agreed that when we will be presenting to the Dean of the College of Arts and Science we will be dressing in dress pants, with a blazer and dress shoes.

We all went over the presentation. We all made sure that there were  no grammar errors and cohesiveness in our presentation.  We spent time going over all the slides together and discussing who will be speaking for which slide. We discussed how we are going to present, our transitions to the next slide/presenter, where we are going to be stationed during the presentation. Our body language during the presentation of who is not going to be talking.  Haliey constructed the group presentation outline to where we all looked over the outline and gave the green light for it.

I will be printing off the presentation and outline for Tuesday.

Start time: 2:54 PM
End time:3:49 PM

Online meeting

Our meeting on 10/14 took place over online. Because of recent events on campus we made a group decision that having use meet online under Google Drive was the best option.

While on Google Drive we made an outline of what we want our presentation to look like. From there we added our results and looked over the criteria of the presentation. Each member contributed equally and added input when needed. We all communicated was through a Google IM board made by Hailey. Only one member couldn't participate to which we used Facebook IM.

We all decided that we will meet this Sunday to go over our presentation in person and start to practice our together as a team.

Meeting started at 7:30 and Ended at 8:30
Next Meeting will be this Sunday at 2:45 PM

Our Results

What Everyone Found out...

The group met at 7:31 in the UC on October 8th. We talked socially for about 15 minutes about each others classes and other topics. Brianna stated that she would be leaving early to attend the AFAB meeting for the organizations on campus.

We started this meeting by talking about all of our results from questioning club leaders, Student life and University policy.

Laura had not yet heard back from her former dance team member or from intervarsity. With intervarsity Laura found out that there are adult not students that also help run the club. She will try to get into contact with the adult that help run the club and get there intake on club advertising.

Brianna had heard back from teh SFO club and the SCA club (formally known as the SACJ club).  The individuals that Brianna talked to expressed their general dislike toward the support and help from student life, OrgSyn and available advertising options for student clubs.

Ashley talked to French club and Swing Dance. They to talked about how there is a struggle to have advertising option to promote their clubs on campus. Swing Dance club stated that they primarily use word of mouth to advertise there clubs. When they where a small club it was extremely difficult to keep their club alive. They even stated that they will be kicked out of their space (which they book month in advance) for University events or other clubs try to get them kicked out.

A big portion on club members are frustrated with OrgSyn and with the regulation one must go threw for their club to get promoted on campus. Many members are confused on how to use OrgSyn and there is little help form faciltiy member who do know how to use OrgSyn.

Aubry talked to Student life and was advised to email one person to answer their question and in doing so received a very long and impersonal email.  The email just confirmed the difficulty for students to advertise and all the regulations that must be met. Also connecting with what the Swing Dance president stated that it takes month to get anything approved because of the regulations.

Hailey found out information regarding the types of advertising the University does and what event receive more support and advertising from the campus. Like the "Year of China". She also learned what posters can contain. Poster will have the basic/vague information about the up coming event held on campus. She also found that student must have poster in 2 or 3 week before the even to get approved by the university.

We later when on to talk about how we are going to structure our presentation for 10/21. What the content will be and who will talk for which section. We decided that we are going to meet twice next week one is go make up the power point and the other is to finalize it and practice for our presentation.

Our meeting started at 7:31 Ended at 8:12

Further Progress on our Topic

Further Progress on our Topic

Today (9/30/2014)  we started off by focusing on our topic more. Our first description was a little to vague for our groups liking so we decided to hone in on it more. What the  problem we decided to address was: The lack of support from the University on advertising club and organizations on campus.

From narrowing down our issue we then looked over what the aspects of the project entailed us to accomplish in the short and long term of this semester and the criteria that needs to be meet. Going over the aspect it helped our group really helped us brainstorm on what we should be accomplishing outside of our group, research that can be done and  people to talk.

From stating the issue for this project we turned to what needs to be discussed for our project and how to go about that.

Brianna, Laura, and I are going to go to various clubs and organizations and ask what are their steps in advertising their group around campus. The questions that will be ask  to the officers are; what are their advertising strategies, how are they able to advertise on campus, and how many people come to the meetings. While also talk to classmates or students on how they received information about the club or organizations. Is there enough advertising for a club they are interested in, who is advertising  (other students or teachers)  and how did they first hear about the club or organization.

Hailey is going to do research on how advertising is done on the University, what is the content of the work, how is it circulated and is there a pattern in clubs and organizations being promoted.

Audrey is going to go to the Involvement Center, find out who is in charge of the Involvement Center. Finding what the clubs and organizations have to go threw to have advertising in the University center and around campus. Also talking to Fernando Delgado when he returns from Scotland.

The beginning of our Project

September 23, 2014

Our first meeting outside of class was meeting at the campus library but switched to the University Center just because the library had a lot of people and no space for us to really discuss our project without disturbing others. All of our group members were in attendance.

All of us had agreed that the leadership will be a shard responsibility. Keeping everyone on track of what needs to get done at every meeting. We all agreed that when our project requires us to have jobs we will determine how to share the work. Example: Someone may be asked to talk to a specific department individual, that will be there "job". While discussing roles with in the group Ashley had volunteer to write for the blog. But other members may also add to the blog as well. In the meeting we also discussed the rules our group will abide by.

Rules:
  • If someone can't make the meeting and a decision needs to be made it will be made with out that individual but the individual will be informed on the decision.
  • Facebook will be used for quick reminder or letting other members know if anything comes up to where they will not make the meeting.
  • Will meet 1 a week then 2 times a week when needed and closer to presenting our project.
  • An hour minimum for a meeting, unless we get through all that was needed or we have not finished what needs to be done that specific meeting.
We all went around to discuss what we all had written on our note card and explained why we chose those one in particular. From there we all agreed upon our project idea. We all found that from our topic we all have had issues with it at UWRF, which made us passionate about our topic.

Project Idea: Club Promotion (communication) on campus
We all agreed that in our next meeting we will focus more on topic and narrow and make the concept more clear.

Start: 7:30      End: 8:45

Next meeting time:
Tuesday, September 31 at 7:30

To Do For Next meeting:
  • Find who is in charge of University Center
  • Find who is in charge of Involvement center
  • Find who is in charge of News Letter
  • Talk to clubs and ask how they feel about their club promotion

Our group members:
Brianna Jonson
Laura Rasmussen
Ashley Andersen
Audrey Krinke
Hailey Johnson

Our first meeting was all of use getting to know each other but the majority of time was use trying to trying to get our schedules figures out to pick the right time to meet which I think will be the most difficult part of our group. But we have picked one day which is next week Tuesday to meet and go over our project: the idea and the responsibilities.

We have decided that we will have a group account on Facebook for our main form on communication about meeting and if anyone is going to be gone, then emailing or texting our second form.

I (Ashley Andersen) have taken the responsibility as the scribe for now. I will be in charge of the blog. We have not assigned any roles for any one which will be one of my topics our groups will discuss on Tuesday the 23 at 7:30 or 8pm.
